Instruction & Outreach Librarian – Concordia University – Irvine, CA

Job Summary

The Instruction and Outreach Librarian serves as the coordinator for all library instruction and outreach activities. This position is responsible for providing information literacy instruction to the campus community by using a variety of formal and informal instructional opportunities including the creation of web-based instructional content. This position leads efforts to enhance campus awareness of the library through an active marketing strategy that includes planning library surveys and special events.

Job Responsibilities

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to accomplish each of the below duties satisfactorily:

  • Instruction (40%)
    • Cultivate and sustain collaborative relationships with faculty, students, and staff in support of campus teaching, learning, and research.
    • Plan, deliver, and assess campus information literacy instruction using a variety of formal and informal educational opportunities including tours, orientations, workshops, classes, and demonstrations, both on-campus and online.
    • Develop, create, edit, and integrate exceptional web-based instructional content such as video tutorials, screencasts, instructional modules, animations, and infographics.
  •  Programming and Outreach (30%)
    • Promote library collections, activities, facilities, and services through library/campus events.
    • Liaise with campus groups and participate in events, meetings, etc.
    • Create print and digital promotional materials such as bookmarks, brochures, flyers, posters, banners, and newsletters.
    • Collaborate with library staff and other departments to build programming focused on enhancing campus awareness of the library and on general campus community building.
    • Oversee the library’s presence on the web, including its social media platforms and online Digital Repository.
  • Reference (20%)
    • Assist with maintaining library policies, budgets, and systems, including safety, communication, and general responsiveness.
    • Provide in-person, telephone, email, and virtual chat reference and research assistance.
    • Maintain and further develop the library’s research guides based on the study of guide design, best practices, and user feedback.
  • Other (10%)
    • Assist with collection development and implementation of new technologies.
    • Work evenings and/or weekends.
    • Supervise the library’s front desk and student employees in the evenings and/or weekends.
    • Assist with Interlibrary Loans.
    • Other duties may be assigned.
  • SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:
    • Supervise student employees in the absence of the Access Services and Acquisitions Librarian.
    • Carry out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the university’s policies and applicable laws.

Educational/Experiential Requirements

Minimum of two years’ experience in an academic library or other library setting is required. MLIS from an ALA-accredited program is highly desired.
