Research Librarian – Answers in Genesis – Petersburg, KY

Job Summary

The Research Librarian works under the direction of the VP of Educational Content to serve the content and information needs of Answers in Genesis staff by providing reference services, collection development, and cataloging as outlined below. This position should display our Core Values of SERVE when interfacing with both internal and external customers to ensure that the message and mission of Answers in Genesis is portrayed in an effective and God honoring fashion.

Job Responsibilities

GENERAL RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Promote the Answers in Genesis mission and standards
  • Uphold the Quality Service Standards of Safety, Hospitality, Presentation and Efficiency
  • Create a SERVE culture environment in all work done

REFERENCE SERVICES RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Serve as liaison for Answers in Genesis executive staff, speakers, researchers, and writers information needs
  • Perform staff reference help research requests & identifying relevant material in the collection
  • Encouraging and serving the personal enrichment needs of staff

COLLECTION DEVELOPMENT RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Maintain and develop Main Collection, Rare/Special Collections, and Archive Collection
  • Collect news items and material concerning Answers in Genesis & associated ministries
  • Encourage and receive input from staff regarding material purchases
  • Identify collection material needing replacement, updating, or weeding

CATALOGING RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Perform original and copy cataloging
  • Search OCLC’s Cataloging and Metadata Services for catalog records & edit to AiG Library practices
  • Verify LC class numbers & subject headings against AiG Library usage
  • Correct, re-catalog, and re-classify records as needed

 

Educational/Experiential Requirements

  • Master of Library Science, Library and Information Science preferred
  • Prior library work experience preferred
  • Experience with MARC records, LC subject headings & LC classification system
  • Strong familiarity with OCLC’s Cataloging and Metadata Services, Classification Web, and LC Authority files

Organizational Requirements and Skills

  • Must agree with and be able to sign our Statement of Faith Maintains a personal relationship with Jesus Christ
  • Regular attendance at a local Bible-believing church
  • Working knowledge of the Answers in Genesis ministry and commitment to biblical authority
  • Value printed reference material but also embracing digital material
  • Detail oriented with ability to organize and prioritize tasks & manage multiple projects concurrently
  • Strong and accurate data entry skills
  • Competent with Microsoft Office applications such as Word and Excel
  • Good networking skills Relate to people well
  • Be a team player with a servant heart
