Job Summary
This position serves Emmaus University in its mission to educate and equip learners to impact the world for Christ by ensuring the library meets the academic needs of the university’s students and employees.
Job Responsibilities
- Responsible for maintaining and developing the library collection for both Emmaus University campuses such that students and faculty are able to conduct research to fulfill their responsibilities in both undergraduate and graduate programs
- Responsible for managing the public services within the library, including, but not limited to, the circulation desk, the reserve book system, the shelving of books, and inter-library loans
- Responsible for maintaining and developing a robust collection of periodicals—both print and digital—appropriate to the university’s mission
- Responsible for maintaining and developing the library’s technical services, including, but not limited to, cataloging and classification
- Responsible for providing all forms of library assistance to the university community, including, but not limited to, assistance with reference materials, research procedures, and bibliographies
- Responsible for maintaining, developing, and making accessible the library’s collection of material related to the Plymouth Brethren movement
- Responsible for overseeing the acquisition and sale of textbooks for university courses
- Responsible for managing student workers in the library
- Responsible for maintaining and developing physical library space that provides students with comfortable, accessible, and quiet areas for sustained periods of study and research
- Responsible for maintaining productive relationships with the Dubuque Community, including, but not limited to, collaboration with other local libraries and accessibility for local constituents
- Responsible for serving on committees as assigned
- Responsible for occasional teaching assignments

- Demonstrated understanding of, experience with, and commitment to ministering among Plymouth brethren assemblies
- Currency in higher education policy and best practices demonstrated by active professional development in the field
- Strong organizational, administrative, and interpersonal abilities
- Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively for achievement of institutional mission and goals
- Ability to teach effectively with a commitment to the scholarship of teaching and learning
- High professional, ethical, and moral standards
Preferred Knowledge and/or Experience:
- Knowledge of the Bible and theology
- Knowledge of or experience within the Plymouth Brethren tradition
- Knowledge of academic programming and resources
- Knowledge of the online learning arena and resources within it
- Masters degree in an area of library science from an accredited institution
- Experience in educational settings
- Experience in academic library settings
