University Librarian – Spring Arbor University – Spring Arbor, MI

Job Summary

The University Librarian should be an enthusiastic and innovative director and leader who works collaboratively with faculty and staff to provide the library services necessary for students’ success at Spring Arbor University.

Job Responsibilities

  • Collaborates with faculty and other academic professionals to ensure the library’s services align with curricular needs and provide students with the information resources necessary for their success.
  • Exhibits innovation and creativity related to library holdings, structure, and management to meet the needs of 21st century students at SAU.
  • Ensures that the library’s website and resources to access information related to library are complete and current. Ensures access of library resources and services to the university community.
  • Coordinates the delivery of library services to students, faculty, and staff who are remote.
  • Develops and administers an effective online library environment.
  • Ensures that the library’s physical space is welcoming, comfortable, accessible, and effective. Manages the library budget and spending. Supervises library staff.
  • Works with faculty to promote the use of Open Educational Resources (OER).
  • Maintains well-organized procedures for the selection, acquisition and cataloging of physical and online collections, books, periodicals, and other library materials to support SAU’s curricula.
  • Manages the library’s Integrated Library System.
  • Manages the library’s electronic resources, including all databases, serials, and consortia, including the annual evaluation of those resources.
  • Maintains and strengthens partnerships and collaborative relationships with consortia and other groups, including Midwest Collaborative for Library Services, Association of Christian Librarians, Michigan Academic Library Association, etc.
  • Provides leadership to information literacy activities and participates in the design of information literacy curriculum and information literacy instruction as needed.
  • Oversees SAU’s small institutional archives. Performs additional duties as assigned and authorized by University administration.

Educational/Experiential Requirements

A master’s degree in library science, library & information science, or related discipline from a regionally accredited institution is required. At least three years of experience working in an academic library and management experience is preferred. Experience with library services and/or teaching in online environments is helpful. Strong computer skills are required, and familiarity with Brightspace or other online learning management systems is helpful. Must be an effective communicator, be self-motivated, be results oriented, be able to prioritize work and manage multiple priorities, and have budget management skills.
