Online Learning Services & Reference Librarian – Trevecca Nazarene University – Nashville, TN

Job Summary

The Online Learning and Reference Librarian leads the development and delivery of library services for online programs as well as provides leadership in the design and delivery of library reference services. This full-time position requires 40 hours of work each week, including some evening and weekend availability. This position reports to the Director of Library Services.

Job Responsibilities

Primary Responsibilities

  • Collaborates with and advises faculty, program leaders, and instructional designers on integrating library resources and information literacy into courses.
  • Develops, maintains, and delivers online library instructional materials, including orientations and tutorials.
  • Conducts library orientations, information literacy instruction, and advanced research sessions in both online and in-person settings.
  • Oversees and supports reference services, including scheduling, training staff, and maintaining tools and resources.
  • Provides research support through “Meet with a Librarian” appointments and participates in reference services for all students.
  • Expands and strengthens the library’s presence within the course management system and other digital learning environments.
  • Evaluates and implements emerging technologies to support online learning and library instruction.
  • Develops and maintains LibGuides and other research support materials in collaboration with library colleagues.
  • Uses data and user feedback to evaluate and improve reference services and online learning support.
  • Serves on university committees as assigned and fulfills faculty responsibilities, including participation in assessment and professional development.

Educational/Experiential Requirements

Requirements

  • MLS or equivalent from an ALA-accredited library program required.
  • Ability to work both independently and collegially in a changing environment.
  • Excellent organizational, technological, interpersonal, and communication skills.
  • Interest in and ability to provide library reference services and assistance to a wide variety of faculty and students in multiple formats.
  • Previous library experience, especially in providing reference services, library instruction, or instructional design, is preferred.
